===Orange Tulips=== |
Revision as of 01:49, 30 December 2019
In order to obtain rarer and different color seeds, a player must cross-pollinate various flowers together. Cross-pollinating is done by taking an existing harvested flower, tapping a fully bloomed (but not harvested) flower patch, and then select the cross-pollination option.
There are several seed results which can happen after cross-pollination depending on the flowers selected for cross-pollination, and it is even possible to fail cross-pollination.
To better understand why certain flowers are recommended for cross-pollination or why the expected results are what is stated, it helps to have knowledge about flower genes, mutations, and other breeding mechanisms. However, this knowledge is not needed for cross-pollinating flowers. See Flower Pollination Details for more.
The Quick Pollination Guide outlines the cross-pollination steps frequently recommended within the ACPC player community.
Quick Pollination Guide
Tulips
To complete all the tulip trades for items in the catalog, the player will need to buy around 325 Red Tulips and 1,116 Orange Tulips from Lloid in the Garden for the steps below.
Red Tulips
Red Tulips can be obtained by purchasing Red Tulip Seeds from Lloid and planting them.
- All Red Tulips purchased from Lloid will have (Red/Yellow) genes.
Yellow Tulips
Yellow Tulips can be obtained from scratch by following the steps outlined in the table below:
Step # | Parent 1 | Parent 2 | Outcome | % Chance | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1. | x | = | 22.5% | |||
(R/Y) | (R/Y) | (Y/Y) | ||||
2. | x | = | 90% | |||
(O/W) | (Y/Y) | (Y/W) |
Further Explanation
- x - Cross-pollinate Lloid Red Tulips onto Lloid Red Tulips to produce Red Tulip Seeds and a 22.5% chance of Yellow Tulip Seeds.
- The Yellow Tulip Seeds obtained will have pure (Yellow/Yellow) genes.
- To collect a large amount of Yellow Tulip Seeds, proceed to step 2.
- x - Cross-pollinate Lloid Orange Tulips onto a Pure Yellow Tulip obtained from Step 1 to produce a 90% chance of Yellow Tulip Seeds.
- Repeat step 2 until the desired amount of Yellow Tulip Seeds has been obtained.
Orange Tulips
You can obtain Orange Tulips by purchasing Orange Tulip Seeds from Lloid and planting them.
Note: All Orange Tulips bought from Lloid will have (Orange/White) genes.
--
145 Orange Tulips are required to complete the Floral Series(Orange Tulips).
Black Tulips
You can obtain Black Tulips by cross-pollinating in the following ways:
- x - Cross-pollinating Lloid Orange Tulips onto Lloid Orange Tulips will produce Orange Tulip Seeds, White Tulip Seeds, and a 15.7% chance of Black Tulip Seeds.
- x - Cross-pollinating Orange Tulips onto Black Tulips will produce Orange Tulip Seeds, White Tulip Seeds, and a 22.5% chance of Black Tulip Seeds.
Note: Rates will change depending on whether or not you are using Orange Tulips purchased from Lloid, Black Tulips with mixed genes, or are cross-pollinating on a friend's garden instead of your own.
--
145 Black Tulips are required to complete the Floral Series(Black Tulips).
Advanced Method
Cross-Pollinating onto a Pure Black Tulip with (Black/Black) genes will provide the most efficient results for total catalog completion. To do this, follow the step below:
- x - Cross-pollinate Lloid Orange Tulips onto Lloid Orange Tulips. When you have 2* Black Tulip Seeds, proceed to step 2.
- x - Cross-pollinate a Black Tulip onto the other Black Tulip to produce a Pure Black Tulip with (Black/Black) genes.
- x - Cross-pollinate Lloid Orange Tulips onto the Pure Black Tulip with (Black/Black) genes.
- x - Continue cross-pollinating Orange Tulips onto the Pure Black Tulip with (Black/Black) genes.
Extra Notes:
- Because cross-pollinating can fail, you may want to stock a few extra Black Tulips.
- Be sure there are no Black Tulip Seeds when you begin cross-pollinating, or it will be hard to know which seed is pure.
- Steps 3 and 4 will produce a 45% chance of Orange Tulip Seeds, a 45% chance of Black Tulip Seeds, and a 10% chance of failure.
- For Step 4, Using Lloid Orange Tulips may result in Black Tulips with (Black/White) genes. Using Orange Tulips received from Step 3 may result in Pure Black Tulips.
Through this method, the player should expect to use around 96 Orange Tulips, with an average outcome of:
Pink Tulips
You can obtain Pink Tulips by cross-pollinating in the following ways:
- x - Cross-pollinating Lloid Red Tulips onto Lloid Orange Tulips will produce Red Tulip Seeds, Yellow Tulip Seeds, and a 15.7% chance of Pink Tulip Seeds.
- x - Cross-pollinating Pink Tulips with (Pink/White) genes onto one another will produce Black Tulip Seeds, White Tulip Seeds, and a 67.5% chance of Pink Tulip Seeds.
- x - Cross-pollinating Lloid Orange Tulips onto a Pure Pink Tulip with (Pink/Pink) genes will produce Orange Tulip Seeds and a 45% chance of Pink Tulip Seeds.
Extra Notes:
- Cross-pollinating Pink Tulips with (Pink/White) genes will produce a 22.5% chance of a Pure Pink Tulip with (Pink/Pink) genes.
- To verify the purity of a Pink Tulip:
- Plant the tulip and cross-pollinate more Pink Tulips onto it.
- If you receive a White Tulip Seed, the flower is a dud and should be harvested.
- If you always receive Pink Tulip Seeds, then the planted Pink Tulip has pure (Pink/Pink) genes.
--
145 Pink Tulips are required to complete the Floral Series(Pink Tulips).
Advanced Method
Cross-Pollinating onto a Non-Pure Pink Tulip with (Pink/Purple) genes will provide the most efficient results for total catalog completion. To do this, follow the step below:
- x - Cross-pollinate Pink Tulip with (Pink/White) genes onto a Pure Purple Tulip with (Purple/Purple) genes to produce a Pink Tulip with (Pink/Purple) genes.
- x - Cross-pollinate Lloid Orange Tulips onto the Pink Tulip with (Pink/Purple) genes.
- x - Continue cross-pollinating Lloid Orange Tulips onto the Pink Tulip with (Pink/Purple) genes.
Extra Notes:
- Step 1 will produce a 45% chance of Pink Tulip Seeds with (Pink/Purple) genes and a 45% chance of White Tulip Seeds with (Purple/White) genes.
- Step 2 will produce:
- Step 3 will produce similar results to step 2 depending on what genes the player's Orange Tulips have.
Through this method, the player should expect to use around 195 Orange Tulips, with an average outcome of:
- 44 Orange Tulip Seeds - (Orange/Purple) genes.
- 44 Orange Tulip Seeds - (Orange/Pink) genes.
- 44 Pink Tulip Seeds - (Pink/White) genes.
- 44 Purple Tulip Seeds - (Purple/White) genes.
Purple Tulips
You can obtain Purple Tulips by cross-pollinating in the following ways:
- x - Cross-pollinating Pink Tulips with (Pink/White) genes onto Black Tulips with (Black/White) genes will produce:
- x - Cross-pollinating Purple Tulips with (Purple/White) genes will produce Black Tulip Seeds, White Tulip Seeds, and a 60% chance of Purple Tulip Seeds.
- x - Cross-pollinating Lloid Orange Tulips onto a Pure Purple Tulip will produce an equal chance of Orange Tulip Seeds and Purple Tulip Seeds.
Extra Notes:
- Cross-pollinating Purple Tulips with (Purple/White) genes will produce a 20% chance of a Pure Purple Tulip with (Purple/Purple) genes.
- To verify the purity of a Purple Tulip:
- Plant the tulip and cross-pollinate more Purple Tulips onto it.
- If you receive a White Tulip Seed, the flower is a dud and should be harvested.
- If you always receive Purple Tulip Seeds, then the planted Purple Tulip has pure (Purple/Purple) genes.
- Cross-pollinating Purple Tulips with (Purple/White) genes will produce a 6% chance of a Pure White Tulip with (White/White) genes.
- Cross-pollinating Lloid Orange Tulips with a Pure Purple Tulip has a 20% failure rate.
---
145 Purple Tulips are required to complete the Floral Series(Purple Tulips).
Advanced Method
Cross-Pollinating onto a Non-Pure Black Tulip with (Black/Purple) genes will provide the most efficient results for total catalog completion. To do this, follow the step below:
- x - Cross-pollinate a Black Tulip onto a Pure Purple Tulip with (Purple/Purple) genes to produce a Black Tulip with (Black/Purple) genes.
- x - Cross-pollinate Lloid Orange Tulips onto the Black Tulip with (Black/Purple) genes.
- x - Continue to cross-pollinate Orange Tulips onto the Black Tulip with (Black/Purple) genes.
Extra Notes:
- Step 2 will produce:
- Using this method avoids a 20% failure rate.
Through this method, the player should expect to use around 455 Orange Tulips, with an average outcome of:
- 102 Orange Tulip Seeds with (Orange/Black) genes.
- 102 Orange Tulip Seeds with (Orange/Purple) genes.
- 102 Black Tulip Seeds with (Black)/White) genes.
- 102 Purple Tulip Seeds with (Purple/White) genes.
White & Blue Tulips
*It is recommended to have no Orange Tulip Seeds in your inventory already before starting cross-pollination for White or Blue tulips, to ensure that only Orange Tulip Seeds bought from Lloid are used.
- Cross-pollinate Orange Tulips purchased from Lloid onto Blue Tulips.
- Plant the Orange Tulip Seeds and White Tulip Seeds obtained from cross-pollinating.
- Harvest those Orange Tulips and White Tulips, and cross-pollinate them onto Blue Tulips.
For catalog completion, the player should expect to use around 370 Orange Tulips, with an average final outcome of:
- 145 White Tulip Seeds - White/Blue genes (145 required for completing catalog trades)
- 154 Blue Tulip Seeds - Blue/Blue genes (145 required for completing catalog trades)

- 146 Red Pansy Seeds - Red/White genes
- 146 White Pansy Seeds - White/White genes (145 required for completing catalog trades)
Purple & Red-Blue Pansies
Pollinating on non-pure Blue Pansies with Blue/Purple and pure Blue Pansies with Blue/Blue genes will provide the fastest results.
(*Both types of Blue Pansies will return both Purple Pansies and Red-Blue Pansies, so it is recommended to work on the two colors together.)
For catalog completion, the player should expect to use around 650 Red Pansies, (approximately 375 Red Pansies used on Blue Pansies with Blue/Purple genes, and 275 Red Pansies used on Blue Pansies with Blue/Blue genes) with an average outcome of:
- 84 Red Pansy Seeds - Red/White genes

Flower Pollination Details
A large portion of the flower breeding mechanisms in ACPC are similar to genes in real life. Every flower and seed has two genes, and even if a flower has the same color as another, they could have different gene combinations. Flowers that look the same (i.e. phenotype) will stack together in the player's inventory, regardless of their genes (i.e. genotype).
Flowers bought from Lloid in the garden always have the exact same gene combination.
Tulip Details
Dominance
The appearance of a flower is determined by color dominance, with the more dominant color being the appearance color.
For tulips, the color dominance from strongest (1st) to weakest (8th) is:
- Red
- Yellow
- Orange
- Black
- Pink
- Purple
- White
- Blue
For example,
- Tulips with (Red/Orange) genes will appear as Red Tulips because Red is dominant over Orange (1st > 3rd).
- Tulips with (Black/Purple) genes will appear as Black Tulips because Black is dominant over Purple (4th > 6th).
Note: Blue Tulips will always have (Blue/Blue) genes, since any other color combination would make them appear non-blue.
Mutations
When cross-pollinating results in specific gene combinations, mutations may occur.
There is a 70% chance that when the player creates the following gene combinations, a mutated seed will result:
- → - Red Tulips with (Red/White) genes may instead mutate into Pink Tulips with (Pink/White) genes.
- → - White Tulips with (White/White) genes may instead mutate into Black Tulips with (Black/White) genes.
- →- Black Tulips with (Black/Pink) genes may instead mutate into Purple Tulips with (Purple/Blue) genes.
Note: If a flower seed mutates, a small red "Rare!" banner will display while receiving the seed.
There is also a chance that cross-pollination can fail, resulting in the player not receiving a flower seed:
- 20% failure chance when cross-pollinating using Purple Tulips.
- 10% failure chance when cross-pollinating using Red Tulips, Yellow Tulips, Orange Tulips, Black Tulips, Pink Tulips, White Tulips, or Blue Tulips.
Lloid's Seeds
You can purchase Red Tulip Seeds and Orange Tulip Seeds from Lloid in the Garden. These seeds will always have the same genes:
- - Lloid Red Tulips will always have (Red/Yellow) genes.
- - Lloid Yellow Tulips will always have (Orange/White) genes.
Knowing the genes for flowers from Lloid can allow the player to better predict what cross-pollination results are possible.
For example, cross-pollinating Lloid Red Tulips with Lloid Orange Tulips, will have the following possible outcomes:
Genes | Red | Yellow | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
Orange | ||||
22.5% | 22.5% | |||
White | ||||
6.7% | 15.7% | 22.5% |
Table Notes:
- There is a 10% chance that cross-pollinating will fail.
- There is a 15.7% chance that Red Tulips with (Red/White) genes may instead mutate into Pink Tulips with (Pink/White) genes when cross-pollinating.
Pansy Details
Dominance
The appearance of a flower is determined by color dominance, however flowers can have co-dominant (tied) colors which results in a new appearance color. For pansies, the color dominance goes:
- Red / Yellow / Blue
- Coral
- Purple
- White
Due to the co-dominance, pansies have the following gene combination per appearance:
Additionally, some pansy colors have a higher chance of being inherited:
- Coral gene = 80% priority
- Yellow gene = 70% priority
- All other genes = 50% priority
Mutations
When cross-pollinating results in specific gene combinations, mutations can occur. There is a chance that when the player receives the following flower genes, it will result in the mutation:
- 70% chance Yellow Pansies with Yellow/Yellow genes = Coral Pansies with Coral/White genes
- 60% chance Coral Pansies with Coral/Coral genes = Blue Pansies with Blue/White genes
- 30% chance Red-Blue Pansies with Red/Blue genes = Purple Pansies with Purple/White genes
If a flower seed mutated, there will be a small red "Rare!" banner when the player receives the seed.
There is also a chance that cross-pollination could fail, resulting in the player not receiving a flower seed:
- 20% fail chance when cross-pollinating using Purple Pansies or Red-Blue Pansies
- 10% fail chance when cross-pollinating using Orange Pansies, Red Pansies, Yellow-Blue Pansies, Yellow Pansies, Blue Pansies, Coral Pansies, or White Pansies
Lloid's Seeds
When bought from Lloid in the garden, the seeds will have the same genes:
Knowing the genes for flowers from Lloid can allow the player to better predict what cross-pollination results are possible.
For example, cross-pollinating a Lloid Red Pansies (Red/White genes) with a Lloid Yellow Pansies (Yellow/White genes), has the following possible outcomes:
Chance of Receiving | Flower Color | Gene Combination |
---|---|---|
29% | Orange Pansies | Red/Yellow |
21% | Red Pansies | Red/White |
29% | Yellow Pansies | Yellow/White |
21% | White Pansies | White/White |
